Cancun 2008

So, a few weeks ago, Chad and I took a long, ten day trip to Cancun. Shocker, I know. Somehow Chad was able to pry me away from my comfort zone and immerse me into culture. Truly, I was in major culture shock when we touched down in Mexico. Aside from a little jaunt to Tijuana when I was ten, and a trip to Canada in high school I have never left the border of this beautiful country. So, needless to say, I was a little stunned to be surrounded by white sand beaches and people speaking a language totally unfamiliar to me- aside from the handful of color words I've picked up from Dora the Explorer, that is.

After the initial shock (of being in a different country and being childless for more than five minutes) wore off Chad and I really enjoyed the time we had to spend in Cancun. We were able to visit the ruins of Chichen Itza, scooter around the island of Cozumel, go snorkeling at Xel-ha, frolic in the beautiful, turquoise water and sit on the gorgeous, white beaches and read... uninterrupted. Some of the best memories will be getting lost in downtown Cancun (European Vacation anyone? "Hey look kids- Big Ben, Parlaiment."), taking the ferry ride over to Cozumel (they had the most amazing band playing- amazing not only for how good they were, but also for their exceptional balancing skills), nearly getting attacked by a huge iguana- okay, not really, but he was running towards me, watching Chad go scuba diving (seriously amazing for someone who can't swim without noseplugs), and watching families of four cruise down the freeway on a mo-ped.

Seriously, if you ever have the chance to visit Cancun, it is totally worth it. It is such a beautful place. And now some pics for your viewing pleasure.
